The 2025 Business Rates Update: What You Need to Know

From April 2025, updated business rates are coming into effect across England and Wales following the latest property revaluation by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

This means your commercial property’s rateable value may have changed - leading to either an increase or decrease in your business rates bill, depending on your location and market conditions.

If you're a small business occupying a single property with a rateable value under £15,000, you may still be eligible for Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR). However, thresholds and eligibility criteria are tightening, so it's essential to check where you stand. You can find your new rateable value and estimated bill via the VOA website.

The government has also updated its guidance on business rates reliefs, including rural, charitable, and transitional relief schemes.

Now is a good time to:

  • Review your property strategy.

  • Budget for any changes in overheads.

  • Consider appealing your new rate if you believe it’s incorrect.

If you're unsure about how the update affects your business, don’t guess - get in touch with us for straightforward, expert advice tailored to your situation.
